Deciduous shrub native to Japan producing small aromatic fruits called sanxo, used as a spice in Japanese cuisine. Features compound leaves with a characteristic citric aroma when rubbed.
Prefers well-drained soil and sunny locations. Requires regular pruning to maintain shape. Tolerates cold well and needs winter dormancy periods. Fertilize in spring and summer.
