Woad - Isatis tinctoria
A biennial or annual plant native to Asia Minor, historically used to produce an intense blue dye. Its leaves contain indigo, a valuable substance for fabric dyeing.
Grow in well-drained soil and direct sunlight. Requires little water once established. Harvest leaves in the first year for dyeing. Tolerates cold well and is disease-resistant.
