Purple Sea Lily

Watsonia borbonica

Description

African bulb adaptable to Mediterranean climate with spikes of purple flowers. Blooms in summer and attracts pollinators.

Growing tips

Plant the bulbs in spring in an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day, in a well-drained substrate to prevent waterlogging. Water moderately during the growing season and reduce watering once it has flowered in summer. It tolerates frost down to -8 °C, making it suitable for Mediterranean climates without special winter protection. Bear in mind that it is a toxic plant, so handle it with gloves and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
