Valeriana officinalis
Medicinal plant for anxiety and sleep. Root with sedative properties.
Valerian needs between 4 and 8 hours of direct sunlight per day and should be grown exclusively outdoors, where it can reach 80 to 150 cm in height. Water it moderately, keeping the substrate slightly moist but well-drained, avoiding both prolonged drought and waterlogging. It is very hardy and tolerates hard frosts down to -20 °C, so no winter protection is needed. Plant it in spring and bear in mind that it is mildly toxic, so handle the roots with care.
