Linden

Tilia cordata

Description

Large tree highly valued for its medicinal flowers and the shade it provides.

Growing tips

The small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) is a large tree, hardy down to -30 °C, that needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 5-6 hours a day. Water it moderately, ensuring the soil neither dries out completely nor becomes waterlogged, especially during the first years of growth. Plant it preferably in autumn in fertile, deep and well-drained soil, allowing ample space as it can reach 15-30 m in height and 8-15 m in width. Its yellow summer flowers are aromatic and medicinal, perfect for making linden tea.
