Tamarix canariensis
Shrub with tiny leaves and delicate pink flowers grouped in spikes. Tolerates saline and sandy soils.
The Canary tamarisk needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6-7 hours a day and is very hardy, tolerating frosts down to -12 °C without issues. Water infrequently, as it tolerates drought very well; it is better to underwater than to overwater, especially in sandy or saline soils where it thrives best. Plant it in autumn or winter in well-drained, even poor soil, and take advantage of its large size (up to 4 metres) to use it as a screen or cover for large spaces. Thanks to its ease of cultivation, it requires virtually no special attention once established.
