Feather stipa

Stipa pennata

Description

Tall grass with feathery structures that dance in the wind. Very characteristic of Mediterranean meadows.

Growing tips

Plant Stipa pennata in a fully sunny outdoor spot (at least 6-7 hours of direct sunlight per day) in well-drained soil, as it does not tolerate excess moisture. Water sparingly, especially once established, taking advantage of its excellent drought and frost resistance (down to -20 °C). Plant it in spring or autumn to enjoy its characteristic feathery plumes in late spring and summer. Bear in mind its mild toxicity and handle it with care, especially around children or pets.
