Plant Stipa gigantea in a spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day and in well-drained soil, as it is very sensitive to excess moisture. Water sparingly, especially once established, taking advantage of its excellent drought tolerance and frost resistance down to -10 °C. It is strictly an outdoor garden plant that thrives in Mediterranean climates; plant it in spring or autumn for the best establishment conditions. In late winter, lightly trim any dry stems to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh spring growth.
