Spinach

Spinacia oleracea

Description

Vegetable rich in iron and vitamins. Grows well in autumn and mild winter.

Growing tips

Spinach needs abundant and regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during active growth in autumn and winter. Plant it in an outdoor spot with direct sun, between 4 and 8 hours per day, in fertile, cool and well-drained soil. It is very frost-hardy and tolerates temperatures down to -10°C, making it ideal for winter growing in Mediterranean climates. Harvest outer leaves progressively to extend the crop, and avoid warm spring temperatures as they encourage flowering and reduce leaf quality.
