Lavender Cotton

Santolina chamaecyparissus subsp. magonica

Description

Perennial shrub with silvery and finely divided leaves, highly aromatic. Yellow button-shaped flowers during summer.

Growing tips

Grey santolina needs full sun exposure (at least 7 hours daily) and a well-drained substrate, preferably sandy or stony, as it is very sensitive to excess moisture. Water sparingly and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, especially in winter. It is frost-hardy down to -8 °C and thrives in Mediterranean outdoor conditions. Prune lightly after the summer flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh aromatic silver foliage.
