Cotton Lavender

Santolina chamaecyparissus

Description

Aromatic shrub with silvery foliage and yellow button-like inflorescences. Ideal for dry and rocky gardens.

Growing tips

Santolina needs full sunlight, with a minimum of 6-7 hours of direct sun per day, in an outdoor space. Water it very sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as it tolerates drought very well and excess moisture can rot the roots. Plant it in well-drained soil, preferably sandy or stony, and it does not require rich fertilisers. It is resistant to light frosts down to -5 °C, so it overwinters well outdoors in Mediterranean climates.
