Salvia verticillata
Perennial sage with purple flowers grouped in spikes, very attractive to pollinators. Highly resistant to drought and intense sun.
Calamarino (Salvia verticillata) needs between 6 and 10 hours of direct sunlight per day and is highly drought-tolerant, so water it sparingly and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Plant it in well-drained soil, preferably sandy or calcareous, as it does not tolerate excess moisture around the roots. It is very hardy and withstands frosts down to -10 °C, making it ideal for outdoor Mediterranean gardens with no need for winter protection. To encourage an abundant display of purple flowers in summer and early autumn, lightly prune the spent flowering stems once blooming has finished.
