Sage

Salvia officinalis

Description

Aromatic shrub with blue-violet flowers. Excellent for cooking and as an ornamental plant.

Growing tips

Sage needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day and infrequent watering, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Plant it in a well-drained substrate, preferably sandy or mixed with gravel, both in pots and in the garden. It is very hardy and tolerates temperatures down to -10 °C, so it can be left outdoors year-round in Mediterranean climates. Trim it lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage the growth of fresh aromatic leaves.
