Pomegranate

Punica granatum

Description

Ornamental fruit tree with red flowers and decorative fruits.

Growing tips

The pomegranate tree needs between 6 and 10 hours of direct sunlight per day, so it must be planted in a fully sunny outdoor spot. It is very hardy and tolerates temperatures down to -10 °C, making it ideal for Mediterranean and continental climates. Watering should be sparse and infrequent, allowing the soil to dry out well between waterings, as it is highly drought-tolerant and suffers in excessively moist soils. Plant it in spring in a well-draining substrate and enjoy its red flowers and decorative fruits throughout summer.
