Prunus × yedoensis
Ornamental Cherry Tree. Japanese cherry with spectacular pink spring flowers in full bloom. Deciduous tree with elegant symmetry and leaves that turn yellow-orange.
The ornamental cherry (Prunus × yedoensis) needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6-10 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings without letting it dry out completely. Plant it in autumn in well-drained, fertile soil, as it is a robust tree that is frost-hardy down to -20 °C. Avoid waterlogged roots, which can cause rot, and bear in mind that it is toxic if ingested. Light maintenance pruning is best carried out right after the spring flowering to preserve the spectacular pink blossoms for the following season.
