Prunus laurocerasus
Large shrub with shiny dark green leaves. White flowers and black fruits.
Cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) is an outdoor shrub frost-hardy down to -15°C, ideal for Mediterranean climates; plant it in autumn or spring in a spot with direct sunlight (at least 4 hours a day). Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, and use well-draining soil. It can grow up to 5 metres tall, making it excellent as a hedge or visual screen. Caution: all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so take extra care if children or pets are present.
