Prunus domestica subsp. italica
Medium-sized fruit tree that produces sweet and juicy cherries. It needs good pruning and regular care to obtain good harvests.
The Greengage plum needs an outdoor location with full sun exposure of at least 6 hours a day and a fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Water moderately and regularly, especially during spring and summer, avoiding waterlogging. It is a very hardy tree, frost-resistant down to -15 °C, suitable for Mediterranean and continental climates. Prune annually after harvest or at the end of winter to encourage fruit production and maintain a good shape; be aware that seeds and plant parts can be toxic if ingested.
