Prunus domestica
Early-flowering tree with highly appreciated fruit. Various varieties.
The plum tree needs an outdoor location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. It is very frost-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -20 °C, making it ideal for Mediterranean and continental gardens. Plant it in autumn in fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and prune it after spring flowering to maintain a good structure. Bear in mind that the seeds and leaves are toxic, so caution is advised if children or pets are nearby.
