Prunus avium
Fast-growing deciduous tree with aromatic white flowers in spring and edible black fruits. Leaves with reddish tones in summer.
The wild cherry tree needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. It is very hardy and tolerates frost down to -16 °C, so no winter protection is needed in most climates. Plant it in autumn or spring in well-drained, fertile soil, as it can reach up to 18 metres in height and requires plenty of space. Bear in mind that the seeds and leaves are toxic if ingested.
