Pennisetum setaceum needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight, at least 6 hours a day, as it is not suitable for indoor growing. Watering should be sparse, allowing the soil to dry out well between waterings, and it prefers well-drained substrates to prevent moisture build-up. It does not tolerate frost, so in cold-winter climates it should be protected or moved to a sheltered spot when temperatures approach 0 °C. Cut back the dry stems at the end of winter to encourage vigorous growth in spring.
