Passiflora incarnata
South American climbing plant with exotic flowers featuring a purple crown and edible oval fruits. Frugal and fast-growing, ideal for sunny pergolas.
Plant the wild passionflower outdoors in a spot with direct sunlight (at least 6 hours per day) and provide a sturdy support such as a pergola or trellis, as it can reach up to 5 metres in height. Water with moderate frequency, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, and use well-draining soil to prevent waterlogging. It is very hardy and tolerates frost down to -12 °C, making it well suited to Mediterranean climates without the need for special winter protection. Bear in mind that it has mild toxicity, so caution is advised if children or pets are nearby.
