Arabian star-of-Bethlehem

Ornithogalum arabicum

Description

Plant with white star-shaped flowers that develop in dense and fragrant clusters. Highly suitable for dry gardens and drought conditions typical of the Mediterranean.

Growing tips

Plant the bulbs in autumn in a spot with direct sunlight (at least 6 hours per day) and in well-drained soil, as this plant tolerates drought and thrives in Mediterranean conditions. Keep watering moderate during spring (flowering season) and reduce it considerably in summer when the plant goes dormant. It is hardy down to -10 °C, but avoid waterlogged soils in winter to prevent bulb rot. Caution: this plant is toxic, so avoid contact with eyes and wash your hands thoroughly after handling it.
