Opuntia ficus-indica
Shrubby cactus with flat, fleshy pads producing yellow flowers and edible fruits in yellow, orange, and red colors. A very hardy plant well-adapted to Mediterranean climates.
Requires minimal watering, only when soil is completely dry. Prefers well-draining sandy soil. Tolerates low temperatures and extreme drought. Prune damaged pads in spring.
