Ocimum basilicum
Annual herb essential in Mediterranean cuisine. It needs heat and cannot tolerate cold.
Basil needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day and temperatures above 10 °C, as it does not tolerate cold or frost; indoors, place it in the brightest and warmest spot in the house. Water it frequently, keeping the substrate constantly moist but with good drainage to prevent root rot. Plant it in spring or summer in a fertile, well-aerated substrate, and regularly pinch off flower buds to encourage abundant, aromatic foliage.
