Myrtus communis subsp. tarentina
Compact shrub with small, glossy and aromatic leaves. Produces fragrant white flowers followed by decorative black berries.
Fragrant myrtle needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings. Plant it in well-drained soil, as it does not tolerate waterlogging, and choose spring or autumn for planting. It is frost-resistant down to -5 °C, making it well suited to Mediterranean winters without special protection. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain its compact shape and encourage the production of decorative berries.
