Dwarf myrtle

Myrtus communis subsp. microphylla

Description

Compact myrtle with small aromatic leaves and white flowers. Decorative black fruit in summer.

Growing tips

The small-leaved myrtle needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to grow well and bloom abundantly in summer. Water with moderate frequency, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, and use a well-draining substrate to prevent root suffocation. It is frost-hardy down to -8 °C, so it can overwinter outdoors in Mediterranean climates without special protection. If grown in a pot indoors, place it near a very bright window and ventilate the space regularly to enjoy its fragrance.
