Fragrant Myrtle

Myrtus communis subsp. leucocarpa

Description

Mediterranean shrub with small fragrant leaves, white flowers and small edible black berries. Excellent for aromatic gardens and drought resistant.

Growing tips

Aromatic myrtle needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight, ideally between 6 and 10 hours per day, as it is not suitable for indoors. Water it moderately, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, especially during summer. It tolerates temperatures down to -8 °C, making it perfectly hardy in Mediterranean climates and requiring no winter protection in temperate zones. Plant it in well-drained soil and prune it lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage the growth of its fragrant foliage.
