Myrtle

Myrtus communis

Description

Aromatic Mediterranean shrub with white flowers and black berries.

Growing tips

The myrtle needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 5-6 hours a day, as it is not suitable for indoors. Water it infrequently, allowing the substrate to dry out well between waterings, since it tolerates drought typical of Mediterranean climates. It is frost-resistant down to -8 °C, so it can overwinter outdoors without problems in most temperate climates. Plant it in spring or autumn in a well-drained substrate and enjoy its fragrant white flowers in summer.
