Melica ciliata
Graceful grass with silky inflorescences that sway in the breeze. A very characteristic wild species.
Plant Melica ciliata in a spot with plenty of direct sun (at least 5-6 hours per day) and in well-drained soil, as it tolerates waterlogging very poorly. Watering should be infrequent, especially in summer, taking advantage of its high drought tolerance typical of Mediterranean species. It is very hardy and withstands severe frosts (down to -17 °C), so no winter protection is needed outdoors. Plant it in autumn or spring to encourage good root establishment before its late-spring flowering.
