German Chamomile

Matricaria chamomilla

Description

Annual plant with small flowers resembling daisies. Traditionally used for infusions that relieve anxiety and digestive problems.

Growing tips

Chamomile needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent excess moisture. Plant it in spring or autumn in well-drained, light soil, as it tolerates temperatures down to -10 °C and adapts well to Mediterranean climates. As an easy-to-grow aromatic and medicinal plant, harvest the white and yellow flowers during spring and summer to use them in herbal teas. Keep in mind that it has mild toxicity, so caution is advised for people with allergies to plants in the Asteraceae family.
