Apple Tree

Malus domestica

Description

Classic fruit tree that needs winter cold to bloom well.

Growing tips

The apple tree needs between 6 and 12 hours of direct sunlight daily and moderate watering, especially during growth and fruiting, reducing it in winter. It is very frost-hardy (down to -25 °C) and in fact requires winter chilling hours to flower well in spring. Plant it in autumn in well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic soil, in a generous space as it can reach 4-8 metres in height. Prune annually in late winter to improve air circulation, light penetration and fruit production.
