Limonium vulgare
Halophytic plant of coastal wetlands. Decorative dried violet flowers.
St. John's Wort (Limonium vulgare) requires full sun exposure, with a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, and is ideal for outdoor Mediterranean gardens or coastal areas. Water sparingly, as it tolerates drought and dry or saline substrates very well; excess moisture can be harmful. It is a hardy plant that withstands frost down to -10 °C, so no winter protection is needed in temperate climates. Plant it in spring in well-drained soil, preferably with good mineral content, and enjoy its purple flowers in late summer and autumn.
