Provence Lavender

Lavandula stoechas

Description

Shrub with violet flowers and distinctive bracts, extremely aromatic and drought-resistant. Ideal for dry and rocky gardens.

Growing tips

Lavender (Lavandula stoechas) requires full sun exposure (at least 6 hours daily) and very infrequent watering, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, as it is highly drought-tolerant. Plant it in well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil, avoiding clay-rich substrates that retain moisture and may cause root rot. It withstands temperatures down to -5 °C, making it perfectly suited for outdoor Mediterranean gardens without any winter protection. In spring, lightly prune the flower stems once blooming has finished to maintain a compact shape and encourage new growth.
