Hyssop

Hyssopus officinalis

Description

Aromatic subshrub with blue flowers very attractive to bees.

Growing tips

Hyssop is a very hardy Mediterranean aromatic shrub that requires full sun exposure (at least 6 hours per day) and well-drained soil, as it does not tolerate excess moisture at the roots. Water sparingly, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, especially in winter. It is highly frost-resistant, tolerating temperatures down to -15 °C, so it can be left outdoors year-round without protection in most climates. Prune lightly after the summer flowering to maintain a compact shape between 20 and 60 cm.
