Mahon Broom

Genista balearica

Description

Balearic endemic plant with bright yellow flowers and thin green branches. Highly drought-resistant and requires no pruning.

Growing tips

The Ginyesta de Maó needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight, ideally between 6 and 12 hours per day, as it is not suitable for indoor growing. Watering should be sparse, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, since it is highly drought-resistant. Plant it in well-drained soil, preferably poor and calcareous, typical of Mediterranean climates, and avoid overly moist soils that could rot the roots. It withstands frost down to -8 °C, making it a hardy and easy-to-grow shrub for Mediterranean gardens; no regular pruning is required.
