Gaultheria mucronata
Shrub with small aromatic leaves, delicate white flowers and reddish decorative berries. Requires partial sun and acidic soil.
The prickly heath needs between 4 and 9 hours of direct sunlight and an acidic, well-drained soil rich in organic matter, similar to what other ericaceous plants prefer. Water with moderate frequency, keeping the soil slightly moist but avoiding waterlogging, especially during the warmer months. It is a hardy shrub that tolerates temperatures down to -12 °C, making it well suited to outdoor gardens in both Mediterranean and cold climates. Plant it preferably in spring or autumn and bear in mind that its berries and leaves can be mildly toxic if ingested.
