Large tree very common on riverbanks. Highly valued wood.

Growing tips

The common ash (Fraxinus excelsior) is a large outdoor tree that requires full sun exposure, with a minimum of 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. It needs moderate watering, especially during dry periods, as it naturally grows near watercourses; plant it in deep, moist, and well-drained soil. It is very hardy and tolerates severe frost down to -30 °C, so no winter protection is needed. Plant it in autumn and allow plenty of space, as it can reach up to 40 metres in height and 15 metres in width.
