Fraxinus angustifolia
Large deciduous tree with pinnate leaves. Very well adapted to Mediterranean climate, drought-resistant and provides good shade.
The narrow-leaved ash is a very hardy and easy-to-grow tree: plant it outdoors in full sun for at least 6 hours a day, in deep, well-drained soil. Watering should be moderate, especially during the first years to encourage root establishment, as once settled it tolerates dry spells well. It is highly frost-resistant down to -18 °C, so no winter protection is needed. Plant it in autumn or spring and allow plenty of space, as it can reach up to 15 metres in height and 9 metres in width.
