Climbing Crown of Thorns

Euphorbia milii var. splendens

Description

Succulent climbing vine with spines and bright red flowers, followed by small capsular fruits. Highly drought-resistant and ideal for xeric gardens.

Growing tips

Place the climbing Crown of Thorns in a spot with direct sunlight for at least 7 hours a day, as it needs plenty of light to bloom abundantly from spring to autumn. Water sparingly, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, since it is very drought-resistant and excess moisture can rot the roots. Use a well-draining substrate, ideally mixed with sand or perlite, and ensure the pot or planting area has good drainage. Protect it from frost, as it does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C; if kept outdoors in a cold climate, move it indoors during winter. Handle it with care, as both the spines and the milky sap can cause mild irritation.
