Fern

Dryopteris filix-mas

Description

Leafy frond plant ideal for humid and shaded areas.

Growing tips

The male fern (Dryopteris filix-mas) prefers shaded spots with a maximum of 3 hours of gentle sunlight, and requires abundant, regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. It is very hardy and tolerates frost down to -20 °C, making it ideal for outdoor gardens in cold or Mediterranean climates, though it is not suitable for indoors. Plant it in spring in a soil rich in organic matter, ideally in humid and shaded areas where it can reach between 60 and 120 cm in height. Caution: this plant is toxic, so avoid direct contact and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
