Foxglove

Digitalis purpurea

Description

Biennial plant with spikes of tubular flowers in vibrant colors. Self-seeds easily.

Growing tips

Foxglove prefers an outdoor location with direct sunlight for 4 to 8 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. It is very hardy and tolerates frosts down to -15 °C, making it ideal for Mediterranean gardens and cold climates. Plant it in autumn or spring in well-drained, fertile soil and allow it to self-seed to enjoy it year after year. Caution: the entire plant is highly toxic; handle it with gloves and keep it away from children and animals.
