Flame Tree

Delonix regia

Description

Spectacular deciduous tree with red and orange flowers that completely cover the crown in summer. Very decorative bipinnate leaves.

Growing tips

The Flamboyant Tree needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day, as it is not suitable for indoors and requires intense light to bloom abundantly in summer. Water with moderate frequency, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, and ensure the soil has good drainage to prevent root suffocation. Although it tolerates temperatures down to -5 °C, it grows best in warm, Mediterranean climates, and young specimens should be protected from severe frosts. Keep in mind that it can reach up to 12 metres in height and 15 metres in width, so it should be planted in spring in a spacious area free from nearby aerial or underground obstacles.
