Daucus carota subsp. sativus
Intense purple carrot with sweet and nutritious roots. Richer in antioxidants than orange varieties.
Plant the purple carrot outdoors in a spot with direct sunlight, ensuring at least 5-6 hours of light per day; it is best sown in spring or autumn. It needs moderate and consistent watering, keeping the soil slightly moist but never waterlogged, as excess water can rot the roots. Use a loose, deep, well-draining substrate (ideally sandy-loamy) so the roots develop properly and achieve their characteristic shape. It is a hardy plant that tolerates light frosts down to -5 °C, making it well suited to Mediterranean climates.
