Cupressus sempervirens
Narrow and columnar coniferous tree with dark green and dense foliage. Iconic of the Mediterranean landscape and ideal for green hedges.
The Mediterranean cypress needs full sun exposure, with at least 7 hours of direct sunlight per day, and very infrequent watering once established, as it is highly drought-tolerant. Plant it outdoors in a spacious location, since it can exceed 3 metres in height, in well-drained soil to prevent water from accumulating around the roots. It is a hardy tree that withstands temperatures down to -12 °C, so no winter protection is needed in Mediterranean climates. Bear in mind that it has mild toxicity, so handle it with care if children or pets are nearby.
