Clematis × jackmanii
Vigorous climbing vine with large intense purple flowers that blooms abundantly in summer. Ideal for facades and pergolas in Mediterranean climate.
Clematis × jackmanii needs between 6 and 10 hours of direct sunlight per day, but with its roots kept in the shade and cool, ideally by covering the base with a layer of mulch or stones. Water it regularly and moderately, especially in summer, without waterlogging the substrate, and plant it in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Being hardy down to -15 °C, it tolerates cold winters without special protection, but plant it in spring or autumn to encourage good root establishment. Provide it with a support structure (trellis, pergola or wall) as it can reach between 2 and 4 metres in height, and prune it in late winter to promote abundant flowering in summer and autumn.
