Clematis integrifolia
Blue violet flowered clematis that blooms in succession during summer. Robust climbing plant ideal for trellises and pergolas.
Clematis integrifolia needs 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day and a fertile, well-drained soil that still retains some moisture, as it requires moderate and regular watering, especially during summer when it is in bloom. Plant it in spring or autumn at the base of a support structure (trellis, pergola or fence) to encourage its climbing growth, which can reach 150–250 cm in height. It is highly frost-hardy (down to -15 °C), so no winter protection is needed in Mediterranean climates, though mulching around the base helps retain soil moisture during hot summers. Keep in mind that it is mildly toxic, so avoid prolonged contact with the sap and wash your hands after handling it.
