Black Rockrose

Cistus nigricans

Description

Robust shrub with dark-colored leaves and white flowers with black spots. Extremely resistant to fire and drought.

Growing tips

The black rockrose needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day and very infrequent watering, as it is extremely drought-resistant; overwatering can rot the roots. Plant it in well-drained, poor to medium soil typical of Mediterranean conditions, preferably in autumn or spring. It tolerates temperatures down to -8 °C, making it a hardy shrub suitable for cold climates. Once established, it requires virtually no maintenance and can reach between 1 and 2 metres in both height and width.
