Narrow-leaved Cistus

Cistus monspeliensis

Description

Compact Mediterranean shrub with small white flowers and narrow leathery leaves, perfect for rock gardens.

Growing tips

The narrow-leaved cistus needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6-7 hours a day and well-drained soil, preferably poor and calcareous, typical of Mediterranean environments. Water infrequently and allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, as it is very sensitive to excess moisture. It is a hardy shrub that tolerates frost down to -8 °C and requires no winter protection in Mediterranean or similar climates. The best time to plant it is spring or autumn, and once established it requires virtually no maintenance.
