White rock rose

Cistus candidissimus

Description

Xerophytic shrub with grayish leaves and white flowers cultivated for its disinfectant and healing properties.

Growing tips

White rockrose needs full sun exposure (at least 6-7 hours daily) and a well-drained, preferably poor and stony substrate, as it is a Mediterranean xerophytic shrub. Water it very sparingly, especially in summer, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings; excess moisture is its main enemy. It tolerates frost down to -7 °C, making it ideal for outdoor Mediterranean gardens without the need for winter protection in most areas. Plant it preferably in autumn or spring to encourage good establishment.
