Growing tips

Red valerian is a very hardy and easy-to-grow plant that requires a full sun position, with at least 6 hours of direct light per day. Watering should be infrequent, as it tolerates drought well and thrives in Mediterranean climates; overwatering can cause root rot. It is best planted in spring or autumn, in well-drained soil, even poor or stony, and it withstands frosts down to -12 °C without any special protection. It is ideal for low-maintenance outdoor gardens, where it can reach between 50 and 100 cm in height and produces abundant red flowers throughout the summer.
